Introduction:

Vedas and Upanishads for Children Book Review

Vedas and Upanishads for children is simply a beautiful medium to introduce our younger generation to the path of self-awareness and wisdom. A perfect book not only for teenagers but everyone seeking answers to secrets of the universe.

A good book to understand the foundation of Hindu faiths. Vedas an Upanishads are the sacred texts written by sages who were ardent seekers of secrets of the universe and passionate to share their learnings and experiences with the humankind.

The fundamental questions, every individual mind, across the world, are answered by these sacred texts.

Roopa Pai has done remarkable work in explaining the essence of the Upanishads in her compendious, clean and flawless writing style.

The book is a wonderful collection of information and cross-references to Vedas and the Upanishads.

The Story:

The readers are set to a journey into the world of Vedas and Upanishads, a tranquil road to “self-awareness and the amazing secrets of the universe”, right from the very beginning of the book.

The book starts with a quiz on the Vedas and triggers the readers’ quest of knowing about the holy scriptures. The noble interpretation of the Vedas and the rishis who wrote them is captivating and draws the reader’s interest in the book.

The author includes hymns from the Vedas and the Upanishads, real-life references and technical tools to create a constant attraction to amaze the readers. The age-old learning techniques and tools are discussed in the beginning chapters. These techniques if practiced well would allow the knowledge to reach the students intact in a far remarkable manner.

The Upanishads stories and teachings are transcribed in a very powerful and enticing way. The lessons from the stories articulated at the end of chapters are truly the best part of the book, where the author asks the reader certain questions.

The characters:

The life of the ancient people who composed the Vedas and the Upanishads are beautifully outlined. The story of the composition of this legendary text in layers is enticing. The author engages the reader by setting different situations. While most of the questions are answered with novelty in the book, nothing is imposed on readers.

The various sages, their disciples and the kings who seek the truth and secrets of the universe – are all beautifully narrated, to make an impactful description of the lessons from the sacred texts.

My Favorite:

Full of positivity the very first pages of the book boost positivity to its readers. There is a line, “When you are willing to make such big sacrifices and are so focused on your goal, all kinds of magic happen” inhibited confidence in me and boosted my morale to continue with this blog work.

The book is full of positivity and deep knowledge of truth to the very existence of life.

My another favorite part is the conversation of the students and their teacher, where the teacher enlightens his students only after, making sure, they are ready to understand the vast deep knowledge about “Brahma” – the ultimate supreme power.

While explaining the true meaning of the holy scriptures the author tries to reinforceon the idea of questioning things before following them blindly.

The book is full of stories, amazing paradoxes, fun quizzes, and humorous modern-day references and connections to superstars from Aamir Khan to Groucho Marx.

My recommendation

A perfect book for the young, teenage mind to explore the universal truth about life and death. To learn to be confident, to stay positive. And to question the need before practicing anything. The ultimate lesson to seek God within you, to be true to yourself, your actions, your friends, your teachers, and your parents. There are many Vedic teachings in the book narrated in so very enlightening and engaging tone with some of the best illustrations and chapter titles.

This is no doubt had become a favorite of mine.
